COSTA MESA
Thirty-eight CERT volunteers answered an activation call January 20th in order to help support the distribution and coordination of sandbags at Fire Station No. 4. Over 100 sandbags were handed out and residents seemed very pleased!

IRVINE
Irvine’s “Cans for Cash Recycling Challenge” was recognized by the U.S. Conference of Mayor’s and awarded “Most Innovative Idea” for the third year in a row. The city plans on donating the $5,000 prize to the 2/11 Marine Adoption Committee. Congrats Irvine.
LOS ALAMITOS

NEWPORT BEACH
A local business man met with city officials to propose opening a winery in Newport. Though it meets the general city plan, it does not meet the zoning code; therefore exceptions are trying to be pursued.
ORANGE
The Orange Chamber of Commerce will be hosting an E-waste collection from 9-4 p.m. at the Home Depot off N. Tustin. So bring your TV’s, computer monitors, laptops, etc. For more information call 714-538-3581.

The competition is on for Irvine and Tustin school districts as they compete in the Astounding Inventions on Saturday at the Irvine Valley College from 10-1 p.m. For more information call 714-730-7339.
